Election day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, this year the Presidential Election will be Tuesday November 4, 2008.

Registrars of Voters     

Persons may register to vote in person any time during the working day at the Town Hall in the Town Clerks Office.  You may also register to vote in person in the Branford Registrar of Voters Office on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at 40 Kirkham Street from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  You must have proof of I.D.

 

To register by mail, a Mail-In Application may be requested from either office or downloaded and printed here.  You are not a voter until your completed application is approved and you receive confirmation from the Registrar of Voters Office.

 

Special voter registration dates and times to be held in the Registrar of Voters Office, 40 Kirkham Street, are:

 

October 18, 2008         Saturday              10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

 

October 21, 2008         Tuesday              Registration by Mail-- A Mail-In- Application for a new voter must be received by the registrar of voters (or postmarked) by October 21, 2008 in order to be eligible.

 

October 28, 2008         Tuesday              9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

                                        Last day to register for Presidential                                                                

                                        Election in person

                                                         

November 3, 2008       Monday              9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon

                                                                                                    Limited session for those whose qualification as to age,

                                                                  citizenship or residence was attained since Oct. 28th.

Voter Requirements

To register to vote in Connecticut, you must:

-be a United States citizen
-be a resident of a Connecticut town
-be at least 17 years old (you can vote when you turn 18)
-have completed confinement and parole if previously convicted of a felony and have had your voting rights restored by Registrar.

 

Registering to Vote 

There are several ways to register to vote. The easiest way is to print and complete the online State of Connecticut Mail-In Voter Registration form (it is a .pdf file), then mail it to the Registrar of Voters at:

You may also visit the Registrar of Voters  in person during our office hours to complete a Voter Registration form and show I.D. Your application must be approved by the Registrar of Voters before you are eligible to vote.

 

You may also visit the Town Clerk (at Town Hall) in person to complete a Voter Registration form and show I.D.

As specified in the form, you will need to provide a copy of proof of identity either at the time your form is mailed or when you visit the polling place to vote for the first time.

 

If you move, you must fill out a new Voter Registration form and submit it by mail or in person to the Registrar of Voters in your new town of residence.

Registration Deadlines for New Voters

PRIMARY: Your application must be postmarked by the 5th day before a primary (or received by the Registrar of Voters by the 5th day before a primary). You may apply in person to the Town Clerk or Registrar of Voters until noon on the last business day before a primary.

ELECTION: Your application must be postmarked by the 14th day before an election (or received by the Registrar of Voters  by the 14th day before an election) or you may register in person with the Registrar of Voters by the 7th day prior to an election.
